Deslandes: "Brightlingsea a Tough Test"
By Reece Hibbird
Margate Midfielder Montrell Deslandes say the Blues “can improve” after Tuesday night’s win at Bowers & Pitsea, and admits it will be a tough test away at Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday.
The youngster who joined the Club this summer from Whitstable started on the bench, but scored in the dying moments of the game, despite not being introduced until the 86th minute to ensure Margate left Essex with their first three points of the season.
“I was speaking to people on the bench saying that I was going to score my first league goal if I got on, and thankfully I did and it felt good”.
“It was put on a plate for me really but I hit it well and then ran over and celebrated with my Uncle and Cousin who were there supporting me”.
Deslandes earned the praise of Manager Andy Drury throughout pre-season, culminating in a starting spot in midfield in the league opener against Kingstonian at Hartsdown Park, however Deslandes says only hard work will get him in the squad each week.
“We have to work hard to be in this team. We go again on Saturday against Brightlingsea which will be difficult but we can improve on our performance on Tuesday and hopefully get the three points”.
Montrell Deslandes is sponsored by Margate Youth both Home and Away for the 2022/23 season.
