Godfrey Poku

Godfrey Poku joins the ‘Gate for the 2023/2024 season to add strength and depth to our midfield going forward. At the age of 33, Godfrey is an experienced operator and has played for many clubs up and down the football pyramid.

Godfrey started his playing career in 2009 for the youth team of St Albans before making his professional debut for St Albans in 2010 where he made 13 appearances, scoring 1 goal along the way. Poku joined Luton Town in 2010 but was loaned back to St Albans as well as being loaned to Southport for the 2011/2012 season.

Poku would then join Mansfield Town making only 4 appearances before Southport took him back on loan where he made a further 32 appearances, and then 17 appearances for Alfreton Town.

Poku would settle and find a place on a permanent basis at the ranks of AFC Telford United for the 2014/2015 season making 39 appearances for the club.

After leaving Telford Poku would make the switch to Havant & Waterlooville on a 1-month loan where scored a hattrick against Oxford City on the same day he signed for the club.

Poku would go on to join Oxford City in 2016 and made 79 appearances for the club and won their player of the year award in 2017 before signing a new deal with the club.

After spells with Woking, Wealdstone, Havant & Waterlooville, Hemel Hempstead and Enfield, manager Reece Prestedge brought Godfrey in to add to the midfield knowing the experience and quality he has in his locker.
