Gate Record Fifth Win In A Row

Margate made it a month to remember recording their fifth win in a row, grinding out a 1-0 win over Kingstonian at Hartsdown Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Gate named a young line-up including a full debut to youngster Marshall Wratten besides handing a space on the bench to Academy and Margate Under 18s player Tom Webster.

In basking sunshine, the hosts took the lead after 19 minutes when in-form striker Noel Leighton got on the end of Wratten’s cross from the left wing. Cool and composed, the Margate man slotted home to the delight of the home crowd.

Margate had a good opportunity to double their lead when a superb defensive header from Captain Liam Friend fell perfectly for striker Tobi Sho-Silva. Sho-Silva drove towards goal but his shot went just wide.

Making his debut for Margate, keeper Kleton Perntreou was performing his duties in goal well, slotting into a defensive line up which limited the visitors from creating much at all.

With just over half an hour on the clock, midfielder Jordy Robins forced the Ks keeper into a smart save.

After the break, Friend came close with a header from a corner whilst Connor Dymond managed to find team-mate Jack Paxman with a deep cross, the Margate youngster making a good connection with the ball but fired wide.

The visitors enjoyed a couple of half-chances but The Gate showed exactly why they’ve been hard to break down this season with another competent and organised defensive display.

As the contest wore on, there were few clear-cut chances for either side as Margate saw out the win with a mature and disciplined second half earning three points and a fourth consecutive clean sheet to boot.

Attendance: 519

Margate: Perntreou, Dymond, Mills, Rogers, Friend ©, Swift, Paxman (Ababio), Robins, Leighton, Sho-Silva, Wratten (Mesquita)
