More Misery For Margate On The Road

Margate fell to a third defeat in a row as they were beaten 1-0 by Carshalton Athletic on a wet and windy evening at the War Memorial Ground in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Manager Andy Drury was without Cameron Brodie (foot), Troy Howard (Ankle), whilst Drury handed an opportunity to Fjord Rogers up front in place of Korrey Henry, whilst Harrison Hatfull returned on the wing in place of Eddie Dsane.

The Blues were very much on the back foot from minute one as the hosts began brightly with Calvin Ekpetita forcing Daniel Jinadu into an early save. It was the former Margate man Ekpetita who was looking the most dangerous as he hit a thunderous shot off the post in the 11th minute as Margate never got going.

Another fine Jinadu stop came shortly before the Blues were reduced to ten men in the 34th minute as Fjord Rogers received a second yellow card and received his marching orders.

The Blues job was always going to be tough with only ten men, and they only lasted level for eight minutes as the hosts took the lead through a wonderful overhead kick from Bradley Williams to give the hosts a 1-0 half-time lead.

The second half started much the same as the first with the hosts on top, and they were denied a second goal in the 47th minute as the offside flag was raised after a brilliant Jinadu save to keep it at 1-0.

With only ten men it was always going to be an uphill struggle for the Blues in the driving rain as they once again had Jinadu to thank for a string of fine saves to keep the score only at 1-0.

Sadly, for the ‘Gate there was to be no late show of any real pressure as the clock ticked down with Jinadu making several more saves to keep the score down to just the one.

The defeat leaves Margate 15th in the Isthmian Premier Division.
