Blues Two Good For K

Margate moved three points closer to safety on Wednesday night as they overcome struggling Kingstonian 2-0 at Imperial fields, the home of Tooting & Mitcham where the K’s currently ground share.

Manager Reece Prestedge recalled James Bessey-Saldanha into the starting eleven, dropping Matty Macarthur to the bench as the Blues were still without experienced midfield pairing of Sam Blackman and Ade Cole through injury.

The Blues started on the front foot with Ben Greenhalgh smashing the crossbar in the 7th minute. Greenhalgh had the bit between his teeth as swung a teasing ball into the box which Phil Roberts was unable to get the decisive touch.

Kingstonian were struggling to force any real chances themselves as Daniel Jinadu become a spectator for large parts of the first half with Margate continuing to dominate with the ball.

Margate started the second half in a similar fashion to the first as they continued to push forward looking for the opening goal, and they didn’t have to wait too long into the half as Harrison Hatfull was brought down in the box allowing Greenhalgh to smash home from 12 yards to give the ‘Gate a 1-0 lead.

Prestedge’s side almost doubled their lead moments later as substitute Matty Macarthur saw his shot palmed away by Rob Tolfrey, only for Nathan Wood to misdirect his follow up wide of the post.

The Blues continued to dominate proceedings and doubled their lead in the 85th minute as Wood scored his first goal for the club as he raced through and calmly beat Tolfrey to make it 2-0 with five minutes left on the clock.

Wood almost made it 3-0 in the dying seconds as again he raced through, only for this time Tolfrey to make an exceptional save as the Blues travelled home with three points in the bag.
