Sandmann Salutes Squad
Joint Manager Mike Sandmann was pleased to see Margate return to winning ways courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Potters Bar Town on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from George Brown and Frannie Collin sealed a deserved three points in the Bostik League.
Speaking after the match, Sandmann said:
“It is a really pleasing response from last weekend and good to get another victory on the road. It is a difficult place to come and the players did what was required in tough conditions to merit the win.”
“We now need to back this result up by winning at home on Saturday. December is always an important month and we will be trying our best in the festive period to pick up some positive results.”
Assessing the 90 minutes, Sandmann felt his side warranted their three points, but admitted he was disappointed by the goal The Gate did concede.
“I thought we looked comfortable for most of the game, up until they scored, really. We need to learn not to give away cheap goals and enforce the defensive discipline that’s served us well against the teams we’ve played at the top end of the division.”
Sandmann reserved further praise for the Margate squad.
“We are honest enough to say when we feel the boys have not acquitted themselves in the best way they can, but today they really have pulled together and shown the resilience required.”
“Hopefully we can replicate that at home because if we can, that will do wonders for the squad’s confidence, especially the younger players in the group. I’m really pleased for them all today and for the supporters who travelled and were fantastic once again.”
Sandmann also confirmed the departure of striker Leroy Lita.
“Everyone at the club would like to wish Leroy all the best moving forwards. We always knew he was coming in on a short term basis and he did this without expecting a penny. We’d like to thank him for his time with us.”
