Bridle-Card Nears Return To Action For The Blues

Margate Goalkeeper Ben Bridle-Card admits it was “frustrating” to be injured, however he is eager to get back between the sticks as he returned to training this week.

The ‘keeper was injured in the ‘Gate’s 3-0 home loss to Hornchurch last month and he says it has been tough watching on from the side-lines.

“It is frustrating when you are out as you feel helpless from the side. Obviously the game I got injured wasn’t great as we lost but before that we had put together a good run”.

“Wins over Folkestone and Worthing were massive so yeah to be injured these last few weeks have been very frustrating”.

On-loan Goalkeeper Billy Johnson has deputised during Bridle-Card’s absence but he hopes that he will be in contention for this weekend’s clash at home to Horsham.

“Hopefully I will train on Thursday and then if that goes ok I will be in contention to return if the Manager picks me”.

Bridle-Card made just his second ‘Gate appearance in the reverse fixture against Horsham in November 2021 and he is looking to right the wrongs from that day as a 94th minute goal condemned Margate to a 2-1 defeat.

“I would like to say it was a foul against me for their winner but it was probably more the ball slipping out my hand so yeah we want to make up for that.”

“I would say on the day we didn’t deserve to lose. We had plenty of players missing because of COVID and injuries and when we went 1-0 up I thought we deserved more from the game”.

Having been at Hartsdown Park for three months now, Bridle-Card says he is enjoying his time at the club and having a Manager such as Jay Saunders helped his decision to join the Blues.

“Knowing how Jay works was an important factor for me joining and getting the chance to step up a division and test myself at this level. It’s been great as I knew the likes of Ben Greenhalgh and Montel so I am really enjoying it”.

Ben Bridle-Card is sponsored this season Home and Away by Alan Swinnock.
