Ryan Day Steps Down From Board Of Directors

Margate Football Club can confirm that Ryan Day has stepped down from the Board of Directors.

Having been a supporter since aged 8, Day joined the Board in May 2022.

Club chairman, Ricky Owen said: “I understand Ryan’s reasons for stepping away, and I can’t thank him enough for all he has done, hours and hours dedicated behind the scenes.”

Ryan Day wrote the following letter to MFC fans:

Last year I received a hospital diagnosis that meant I was restricted in the amount of time I could dedicate to Margate Football Club. Supporters would have noted that I was unable to attend a fixture since January 2024.

This decision to step down is a difficult one, however my outlook on life has always been all in or nothing, and over the past six months that has become extremely difficult.

During my time on the board there is no doubt that we have endured some extremely low points, however also some incredible times that will live with me forever.

Not being able to be at the Club every week during our relegation was a feeling that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. The disappointment and frustration of last season was difficult for us all, and for me not being able to be at every game showing my support to the boys was tough.

One high personally was being present at Gillingham last season to see us lift the Kent Senior Cup for the first time in 20 years. That night epitomised everything that Margate FC can be. The supporters were incredible that night, and it is something that will live with me forever.

The unveiling of new changing rooms last summer and the foundations being laid for the North Stand were also moments which filled me with great joy.

Something I felt passionately about was the incredible amount of work that went into the Community Trust, which was effectively picked up as an unused entity, and with hard work from all involved, is now a thriving Trust that delivers so much incredible work in the community of Thanet.

Our homeless project is unique to this area and has already made an incredible impact on the lives of many people in Thanet.

There are way too many people to thank for their support. I have worked alongside some incredible people that will be friends for life.

For now, I must continue to focus on my health and taking as much time as possible to rest and continue to fight last year’s diagnosis.

My final words are to you supporters. Keep believing, keep supporting, and help get the club back to where it belongs and beyond. In Ben, we have an exciting young manager who has already shown in just a week that he is capable of putting together a strong squad to bounce back next season.
