MATCH REPORT / Collin Coverts Late Pen For Point
Collin Coverts Late Pen For Point
There was nothing to separate Margate and Worthing as they came head-to-head at Hartsdown Park on Saturday afternoon.
The opening 45 minutes were an even affair as both teams looked to carve the game’s opening opportunity.
With two solid defensive back-lines, the half’s clearest opportunities tended to arise from set-pieces.
Including Dave Martin whose powerful shot from a free-kick played short, whistled over the crossbar.
Margate managed to put the ball in the back of the net courtesy of a fine finish from Frannie Collin, who was denied by the linesman’s offside flag, much to the dismay of The Gate.
The visitors took the lead after 53 minutes when a long ball found Pearce who rolled the ball to Aijobye who clinically finished to put the ball beyond Louis Wells.
Worthing almost doubled their lead but some outstanding defensive work from Jack Paxman kept Margate in it.
And how important that piece of defensive worked proved to be, when five minutes from time, the hosts were awarded a penalty.
Paxman played a delightful reserve ball inside the box to Sidney Warden whose touch beat his marker, inviting the foul and subsequently offering Margate the chance to draw level.
Stepping up to the plate, Collin cooly smashed the ball into the back of the net earning his side a point.
