Due to bad weather over the last 12 hours and more expected rainfall on Tuesday, Margate have agreed to move our Friendly with Bearsted by 48 hours to Thursday 8th July 2021 with kick off at 7pm.

The decision has been taken in order to protect the pitch.

Margate begin their 2021/22 pre-season campaign on Thursday evening as they travel to the Otham Sports Ground to face Southern Counties Premier League side Bearsted.

The Blues head up the M2 as they begin their new campaign after two seasons of disruption due to Coronavirus.

With a host of summer signings set to be on show, Margate Manager Jay Saunders is looking forward to seeing how his side is looking ahead of the new Pitching in Premier Division campaign.

“I am really pleased with how the squad is looking. It is exciting to be getting back to doing what we all love”.

“We have been back in training for a few weeks and enjoying the environment and looking on paper I think this is the strongest playing squad I have had since re-joining the club, but that’s only on paper”.

Despite Coronavirus playing havoc with non-league football over the last two years, Saunders admits it has allowed him to build a stronger squad this time around.

“I spoke with my management team after the league was suspended last November and then met with Ricky and got our budget sorted and we started conversations with certain players straight away”.

Ahead of the first fixture of pre-season, Saunders admitted that no one will get 90 minutes and fitness and building partnerships is the key aspect of the game.

“Some players will get more than 45 minutes perhaps, but no one will play the whole 90 minutes. Results are not important at this stage, although I am believer that winning becomes a habit”.

“I’m looking at the team that will start tomorrow and not one of them has played next to another before so we will be working on partnerships and that will be important throughout these pre-season games”.

Supporters looking to attend this fixture are able to purchase tickets on the door at the ground with Adult tickets priced at £5.
