Sandmann Satisfied With Worthing Display
Joint Manager Mike Sandmann was pleased with his side’s industrious display after a late Frannie Collin penalty sealed a point against Worthing at Hartsdown Park on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking after the 1-1 draw, Sandmann said:
“We’re pleased with the work rate, application and character the boys showed against a very good Worthing team.”
“We managed to keep a good shape and were disciplined behind the ball, which limited them to few clear-cut chances, and we felt we deserved our point from the game.”
With additional absentees including George Brown and Alex Flisher, Sandmann was pleased to see a mature edge from his players as they battled for a valuable Bostik League point.
“I’m pleased with the performance and we will be using that to move forward with. The boys performed well as a collective and did their individual jobs. All things considered, we can look at it as a decent point earned.”
“I believe if we can show that level of performance more consistently, we will be pushing in the right direction.”
Margate have a break before travelling to league leaders Haringey Borough on Saturday 19th January and Sandmann hopes the period will prove useful in aiding the recovery of a number of players unavailable for selection.
“George has returned to Colchester and hopefully his injury will not rule him out for too long as he was doing really well with us and enjoying his football.”
“Flish was unavailable due to a hamstring injury and our bench did look threadbare today but credit to the young boys who did come on, especially Sidney who slotted into the side and won us the penalty.”
Sandmann added, “We have a tough month ahead of us. There are no easy games in this league and we’ll be taking on some of the in-form sides at the summit, so we need as many bodies available as we can.”
“The break gives us extra time on the training ground together where we can hopefully add Rogo back in the mix, we look forward to having Sid Sollis back with us from his loan spell at Sevenoaks and make additions where we can.”
