Blackman: "We are more resilient"

By Reece Hibbird, Full 'O' Football Podcast

Margate Midfielder Sam Blackman says the Blues have become more “resilient” over the last month which has seen them go unbeaten in seven games in all competitions.

The ‘Gate extended their unbeaten run last Friday evening at home to Billericay after grounding out a 0-0 draw despite being under pressure for large parts of the game, however Blackman says that shows how far the team have come.

“We are more resilient now. Friday night and probably that Bishop’s Stortford game before we might have lost at the start of the season, so it shows how far we have come in the last month”.

The midfielder says there is a “good vibe” amongst the players ahead of this weekend’s trip to third placed Potters Bar Town.

“There is a good vibe at the minute. We have shown in the last seven games that we know how to win games and we want to push on from here”.

“We are still a relatively new group and it takes time to see how new players work etc. and the runs they make so now we are all learning that we are seeing the results on the pitch”.

Blackman says the point at home to Billericay was deserved after much improvement from the Isuzu FA Trophy defeat earlier in the season.

“We owed them one from the Trophy defeat. They are a very good side and maybe they could have won on the night if it wasn’t for some great defending and goalkeeping, but that is that resilience I am talking about now which means we are earning points where we might have lost them previously”.

Ahead of the trip to Potters Bar, Blackman says he hopes to keep the good form going.

“Saturday will be tough, they are a good team but we want to go there and put on a performance and keep this unbeaten run going for as long as we can”.

Sam Blackman is sponsored this season by Ryan Creighton & Tom Bull at home and Phil Povey away.
