Dymond Display For Gate

Announced as a Margate signing on the eve of his debut, midfielder Connor Dymond slotted into The Gate’s starting eleven seamlessly with an impressive opening 90 minutes for the club.

Joining Hartsdown Park from Bostik League rivals Kingstonian, Dymond’s tough tackling and competent communicating made a positive first impression on Margate fans.

Talking about his debut after the 2-2 draw against Wingate and Finchley on Saturday afternoon, Dymond said:

“It was good, the surface is decent, so it was nice to get the ball down and play. I’ve played Wingate before, so I half knew what they were about.”

“I knew they liked to play the ball through the middle and had good, athletic players in midfield and they like to play direct. Overall, I thought we deserved to win the game. I think we switched off twice in the whole game and got punished for it.”

Margate’s management team have been after Dymond for a while and the former Crystal Palace player is hoping to make a positive impact as a permanent signing.

“I’ve known Mike for a long time and was at Kingstonian at the start of the season and things didn’t work out there, so Mike said to come down and we got it over the line yesterday and I was pleased to be involved today.”

“I like to stop the ball going from the front man and do as much as I can to break up play and intercept the ball and play it simple. I can talk for fun on the pitch. I don’t get forward too much, so don’t expect to many goals!”

With very little time to get to know his team-mates, Dymond has seen enough to believe there’s quality for Margate to make a festive push up the table.

“I’ve played against a lot of these boys and they’ve welcomed me in with open arm. I was on the Whats App group last night and it made meeting them all much easier.”

“I think play-offs is a realistic option with the quality in this team. The set-up is here at the club, you’ve got good management, a good group of boys so we should look to be pushing for that.”

Dymond added, “I didn’t know too much about the results before and it’s a shame not to have picked up back-to-back wins. But a point is a good point in this league and we take away the positives, it is another game unbeaten and we take each game as it comes."
