Blackman: "We want Trophies"

Margate Midfielder Sam Blackman says it is the “aim” to win two trophies this year, as “winning trophies is what every player aims to do”.

The Blues reached the last four of the Velocity Trophy on Tuesday evening thanks to a 4-1 home win over Carshalton, and Blackman hopes the ‘Gate can go all the way.

“We are one game off the final now and every player always wants to win trophies. We looked leggy in the first half after a tough game on Saturday, but you can’t argue with a 4-1 win”.

As well as reaching the last four of the Trophy, Margate made it ten games unbeaten in all competitions, and the 26-year-old believes momentum will be “huge” heading into the business end of the season.

“You can just get into a habit of going on a good run and that is massive. We have played some games in those ten and not been great, but you get into that habit and just build and build, so momentum will be huge”.

Margate head to Sussex this weekend to take on League leaders Worthing and whilst it may not be a six pointer, Blackman agreed it is a “big game” in the clubs bid to make the play-offs.

“If you look now with ten games to play we know we can’t afford to drop too many points. Saturday is a game that you look forward to as players”

The Blues have already overcome Saturday’s hosts in the league this season after winning 4-2 in December at Hartsdown Park, and Blackman feels that will give Margate belief this weekend.

“I think that win at home gives us belief that we can beat them. They are obviously a very good side, especially at home but we have already shown we can beat them, and we will aim to do that again”.

Tuesday night’s goal capped off a great week for Blackman who agreed to stay at Hartsdown Park for the 2022/23 season last week, and the Midfielder is excited about the future at Hartsdown Park.

“I have said before that I enjoyed my time under Steve Watt here and I have really enjoyed this season under Jay”.

“In the conversations I had with Jay and the Chairman it is obvious where we need to improve to break into that top three in this division, and that is certainly the aim”.

Sam Blackman is sponsored this season by David and Lesley Swinnock both Home and Away.
