Blues Exit Velocity Trophy

Margate exited the Velocity Trophy on Tuesday evening at Hartsdown Park as they were beaten 4-2 by Sheppey United.

The ‘Gate started strongly when they took a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute as a delightful Brandon Davey half-volley from outside the box gave the Blues a half-time lead, which was almost doubled just before the break as Davey struck the post with a header just minutes before the break.

It was a nightmare start the second half for the Blues as Margate conceded four goals in just 13 second half minutes, with Gil Carvalho the Sheppey hero, netting an eight minute hat-trick to condemn the Blues to defeat.

The ‘Gate scored a consolation goal in the 88th minute as tricky winger, Jordon Ababio managed to fire one back in for us.

Hopes were raised in the 90th minute as the visitors were reduced to ten men with seven minutes added on, however there was to be no late drama as the Blues suffered their first home defeat of the season.

Margate XI: Hobbs, Hatfull, Walsh (Muwonge 62’), Sterling, Hudson (Ababio 54’), Brand, Olutade (Atkins 68’), Greenhalgh, Davey, Duo, Garande (Peters 75’)
