MATCH REPORT / Tooting Knock Gate Out Of Trophy
Margate took on Tooting and Mitcham in the second Rd of the Buildbase FA Trophy and were dispatched 4-0 in front of 312 supporters at Hartsdown Park on Saturday afternoon as our visitors from the South-Central league put us to the sword with a clinical display of attacking football.
The firs half was a tepid affair with both sets of players sizing each other without creating any notable chances, things changed in the 40th minute as Danny Bassett collected the ball 25 yards out, sized up his shot and slotted the ball past the diving Holloway, things got worse for the ‘Gate as skipper Ben Swift was withdrawn through injury and replaced by George Essuman.
The second half started as the first ended with Toting on the ascendancy and they doubled their lead through the industrious Connor French who bundled home from a pinpoint cross from the right flank.
Two became three with little Margate resistance as David Castanho finished a well worked move to finish from inside the box in the 65th minute.
The rout was completed in the 88th minute as Razzaq Coleman smashed home a volley at the back post. 4-0 to a very impressive Tooting and Mitcham side and work to do for Jay Saunders and his Margate players.
