Agyemang: "Buzzing To Get Started"

By Josh Cole

Montel Agyemang says there were positives” against Sheppey last weekend which concluded the ‘Gates pre-season ahead of the Blues league opener against Whitehawk on Saturday.

“There were lots of positives to take from the game, I think you can see some of the patterns of play we’ve worked on in training and are implementing into games, we’re gelling nicely as a team with a mix of old faces that have played together before and new ones coming in who haven’t so I think we are doing quite well at this stage and now all focus is on the first game of the season.”

Agyemang praised pre-season by saying the management team had utilised the schedule to ensure everyone had a chance to impress.

“I think it was a good pre-season, we mixed the squad around a lot during the schedule, giving all the players chances to express themselves on the pitch, and now I feel we are in a place where we can build something and achieve great things come the start of the season.”

Agyemang acknowledged his pre-season was hampered by shin injuries but admits he “feels fitter” ahead of Saturday’s opener.

“Coming off the back of another shin injury my pre-season personally was hampered by that, but I’ve been getting through games and now I feel a lot fitter then what I did at the beginning which is the aim of pre-season so I think it was good, I just can’t wait to get back into league football.”

The Margate midfielder says he is “buzzing” to get the season started this coming weekend.

“I’m buzzing (for the opening day game vs Whitehawk) always buzzing to play football, it’s good that our first game is at home so we have the backing of our fans giving us that extra inch and I can’t wait to start winning.”

Agyemang admits the squad looks sharp and he is hoping for big things from the Blues this season.

“I’m somebody who always wants to challenge and achieve loads, I want to be successful, and I think we’ve got a good team to go and do that this season it’s not going to be easy because there is a lot of good teams in this league but if we stick together as a club, fans and players alike, a lot of teams will be in for a shock when they play us.”

Montel Agyemang is sponsored by Megan Oatridge for home and Dean Martin away!

You can see Monts and the squad in action at Hartsdown Park on Saturday as we kick off our league season against Whitehawk. The Lionesses’ game is on at 11:30am and any fan that is in the bar before the Lionesses kick-off will get free entry to the league game in the afternoon!
