INTERVIEW / Warden Winter Break Benefits Gate
Warden Winter Break Benefits Gate
It was a short but sweet return to Hartsdown Park for Margate youngster Sidney Warden during the festive period.
Having been part of the club’s Championship winning Under 23s side last season, Warden emerged into the first team before making a move to the States to study and play abroad.
With The Gate squad low in personel, Warden made a vital contribution off the bench during the 1-1 draw against Worthing.
Explaining the move to America, Warden said:
“I’m enjoying it in America a lot and had a decent first season. Now it’s just training and school work but the training every-day with a good group of players and good coaching is really enjoyable.”
“Ever since I came out of professional clubs, I knew that the best way to continue my education and football development was to gain a scholarship in America.”
“I got involved with an agency called Pass4Soccer and they really helped the move, especially Tom Nutter. I’m doing a degree in Finance that will last four years.”
Returning back home for Christmas, Warden reunited with his former team-mates and coaches.
“I love coming back to Hartsdown and it was great to see the boys, Mike and Browny again. They are a great bunch of lads that really help my development into men’s football. Obviously coming on to win a penalty in front of the home crowd was the icing on the cake.”
“When I was told I could sign for the game versus Worthing I knew it would be a tough game against a top of the league side. I thought the boys played really well and at times maybe deserved more than the point we got, but I definitely believe it’s one point gained rather that two lost.”
Warden added, “I was happy just to get the chance to be on the pitch but to be able to win the penalty for the equaliser was brilliant and I was buzzing that I could help the team get back on level terms.”
Despite being hundreds of miles away, Warden revealed he keeps a keen eye on how his Dad, First Team Coach Timmy and distant team-mates are getting on.
“Despite there being a five-hour time difference, I have been keeping in touch with signings and results and all things Margate. I love the club and the fan base and have enjoyed my time here thoroughly.”
“I’m back in America now but training with the boys really helped me keep in shape and hopefully next year I could do the same.”
