Young Blues Humbled By Maidstone United U23's
Report by Paul Meade
Margate U23s completed their preseason schedule with a heavy home defeat from a well organised, disciplined and experienced Maidstone United U23’s side.
The young ‘Gate side with players injured and players on holiday struggled to contain the opposition from the very start, finding themselves 3-0 down after 12 minutes.
Margate did get a goal back via hard working Reece Grieg, but this only spurred Maidstone into another gear as constantly moved the ball quickly which Margate were unable to combat, scoring again from the penalty spot before half-time.
The second half took the same pattern as the first despite lots of substitutions and formation changes but this was a very good Maidstone team who enjoyed passing and moving the ball as a team.
Further goals in quick succession on 47,48 and 55 minutes sealed an emphatic victory.
Margate did get a consolation goal from Jude Buchanan’s direct crossed free kick that somehow eluded the Stones keeper to end the game 7-2.
Our U23’s begins their SCEFL Development League debut season on Monday 21st August at 7:45pm as they make the short journey to Herne Bay.
