INTERVIEW / Fisher: "I can't wait to get started"
Fisher: "I can't wait to get started"
New signing Taylor Fisher says “it feels good” to have joined the club this summer, and he is “excited” to get going at Hartsdown Park.
The full-back was Andy Drury’s first summer signing, joining the Blues from Sittingbourne, where he swept up at the club’s end of season awards night, after being named the Isthmian South-East Sides’ Players Player of the Year, Managers Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year.
“It feels good to be here. I was pleased that I could get things sorted quickly with Andy early in the summer”.
“It is exciting to be here as I want to play at the highest level I possibly can. I played a few games in the National League South for Dartford, but ultimately this is a step up for me from last season, and I am excited to get going”.
Drury made Fisher his first signing this summer after watching him impress at Sittingbourne last season, with the advantage of knowing his potential thanks to playing with his dad, during his own playing career, which started at Sittingbourne.
“The gaffer played with my dad when Andy was just starting out and my dad was finishing his career. We haven’t spoken too much about it but my dad said Andy was a quality person and I could tell that straight away after meeting him”.
“The gaffer has played at the top level, so I know his experience will help me progress and improve my game”.
The 22 year-old says he has heard so much about the incredible fan base at Hartsdown Park, that he can’t wait to play in-front of them when the season finally kicks off.
“I thought Sittingbourne was fantastic but I have heard so much about the Margate supporters and how much noise they make at Hartsdown Park”.
“That type of support will be massive this season as it will be a tough division, but with their support we can hopefully reach our aims”.
Speaking about his ambitions for the 2022/23 season, Fisher admits that the Club is looking to improve on last season’s finish of 8th as a minimum.
“I think every club looks to build on the season before, so a higher finish than 8th is the aim, but hopefully we can add a trophy in to that as well”.
“The boss has made some good signings so far, and the fact that Ben Greenhalgh is staying is massive for this club”.
“I played with Ben at Dartford and he is a huge part of any changing room and I can’t wait to push on with him in the team”.
Supporters will have their first chance to see Fisher in action when we host Glebe in our first pre-season friendly on Saturday 9th July 2022, with kick-off at 3pm.
This friendly is FREE to all. Supporters are advised to register their tickets before the day and can do so by clicking here.
