Women Suffer Baldon Defeat

Margate Ladies suffered defeat on the road as a stretched side were beaten 5-2 by Baldon Sports.

The teams had met on two previous occasions this season, with Margate claiming the cup win and settling for a draw when the teams clashed back in December, but it was Baldon Sports who claimed the three points in the final meeting between the two sides of the season.

A number of injuries left The Gate stretched for players, fielding just ten players, as they travelled to Kidbrooke this Sunday Afternoon.

It was Baldon Sports who scored the first goal as they broke through the defence and slid the ball past Montgomery. However, despite lacking in numbers, it was The ‘Gate who dominated a large portion of the half and shortly after Barton equalised.

Twenty minutes into the first half Conabeer suffered an injury bringing the Blues down to just eight outfield players. This didn't stop the determination of the away side who dug deep and kept the scoreline even at half time.

Soon into the second half Baldon scored a second and third goal. It was apparent that their strength in numbers was a benefit to the home team giving them a few more options whilst in possession,

Margate forced several attempts on goal throughout the half from Adams, Speller and Chapman and the side looked hopeful of clawing back the game.

Barton reacted with a second goal after defeating a number of players and then a number of shots which rebounded and eventually ended with a headed goal in the Blues favour to make it 4-2

A fifth and final goal was scored by Baldon when a set piece was fired straight past Montgomery and into the back of the net.

Margate play their penultimate game on Sunday as they head to Meridian at the Victory Stadium in hopes of a third place league finish, Kick-off is 2pm.
