Hudson: "There is a Feel Good Factor at the Club"

By Josh Cole

Margate defender Harry Hudson believes the pre-season fixture against Herne Bay didn’t feel like a “friendly”, and admits that he was “impressed” with both team’s tempo and fitness levels, after the Blues were defeated 2-1 on Friday night.

“I feel alright fitness wise, better than I thought at this stage. It was a tough game, I was very impressed with both team’s tempo and fitness level.”

“I thought the level was high, and I feel like we need more games like that in pre-season.”

Hudson admitted the squad were “gutted” to lose despite the game being a friendly, but added that the season is looking promising with the players that manager Reece Prestedge has at his disposal this season.

“The boys are gutted in there, Ben’s a great talker and he’s building our confidence up, and with the players we’ve got this season, I really do feel like we can overcome a loss like this and push on step by step, game by game and we can definitely become a lot better.”

Hudson scored the Blues only goal the game taking his chance like you would expect a striker to, rather than a defender, however he just “trusted” his abilities and instinct to side foot the chance into the bottom corner.

“I didn’t really think about it to be fair. I never really score goals like that, but you’ve got to just take them when they come, and I trusted my ability and instinct as a player.”

Margate next face National League South side Dartford on Tuesday evening at Hartsdown Park and Hudson believes it will be a “tough” test, but one he and the squad will relish.

“These are the sort of games you want to play, you want to try and not only impress them, but you want to impress your teammates, your fans, because these are the games you need to perform in because they will be miles better than the teams we play in our league.”

Hudson heaped praise on the “feel good” factor at the club being created by manager Prestedge and assistant manager Ben Greenhalgh, pointing to the “positivity” in the camp just three weeks into pre-season.

“I can honestly say that I think Prez and Ben have done sensational, we’ve got a good bunch of lads and the atmosphere is positive amongst the group, and these facilities, especially the new changing rooms, I think they are the best changing rooms I’ve been in.”

“The boys are all together, they’re doing their initiations at the start, everyone’s joining in and getting along with each other and I’m feeling very positive about the season ahead.”

Harry Hudson is sponsored Home and Away by Terry Scott for the 2023/24 season.
