Girls Academy To Launch September 2019
Margate Football Club is delighted to announce it will be launching a new full-time Football Academy for girls at the start of September 2019.
Following the hugely successful launch of the Margate FC Academy earlier in 2018, today the club are proud to announce that from September 2019, we will also offer a first-class option for female footballers across Kent.
The Gate will continue their partnership with specialist sports school Herne Bay High, to host the Girls Academy and ensure students do not have to compromise their educational choices.
Whilst there are a handful of Academies for girls across Kent, Margate FC’s full-time provision will be the first to offer A-Levels to learners, thereby providing a unique option to those wishing to further their academic ambitions alongside their footballing achievements.
- By joining the Academy students will have the opportunity to:
- Play competitive fixtures and friendlies against professional clubs
- Visits to Wembley stadium to experience first-hand the exists routes via UCFB
- Scholarship opportunities via our partners Sports Recruit USA
- Progression on to various degree programmes within the UK
- Full use of a Gym facilities on site
- Full time A-Level and BTEC courses at Level 2 and 3
- Play on the world class Hartsdown Park stadium 3G pitch
Speaking about the news, Margate FC Vice-Chairman and Academy Coach, Ricky Owen said:
“After the success and interest generated since launching our Academy this year, we have looked at options to expand our work. Thanks to Herne Bay High’s support, we are able to offer a first-class education provision combined with the footballing facility at Hartsdown Park.”
“We want to ensure as many young people could benefit and with the growth around the women’s game, we identified a lack of opportunity for aspiring female footballers in this part of the county and are hopeful this Academy can help address that.”
Margate FC’s General Manager, Deny Wilson, added:
“Over the past few seasons, a lot of work has been undertaken to develop women and girl’s football at Margate FC. I’m delighted we will be able to build upon our solid foundations to offer such an outstanding opportunity in partnership with Herne Bay High.”
“The educational offer speaks for itself, but alongside the chance to train and play at Hartsdown Park, we will be to provide female players a full-time training option, with opportunity to play against professional clubs and link in with our senior team who also play and train at Hartsdown Park during the evening and on Sundays.”
