'Gate Held To Late Draw

Margate were again denied all three points in the dying moments as George Saunders scored in the final moments to deny Jay Saunders side three points.

The Blues started brightly as they hit the crossbar in the 12th minute as Kadell Daniel and Noel Leighton linked up well before Michael Abnett saw his floated cross clip the crossbar and away from danger. The Blues continued to show some early promise with the impressive Adem Ramadan creating chances for both Leighton and Daniel, only for the ‘Urchins keeper Joe Wright to keep the hosts at bay.

The visitors created their first major chance in the 31st minute as Chris Dickson found himself one on one with ‘Gate keeper Joe Tupper, only for the on loan Crystal Palace keeper to close down Dickson and deny him his 19th goal of the season.

Margate took the lead in the 40th minute with Ramadan superbly sprinting 40 yards before curling a delightful shot past Wright to give the ‘Gate the advantage at half-time. The hosts continued their dominance in the early stages of the second half as Ramadan saw a snapped shot well saved by Wright, before Daniel saw chance moments later dragged wide.

Margate looked increase their advantage with Ben Swift and Daniel seeing chances go to waste before the visitors were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute which was duly dispatched by experienced striker Jamie Cureton, despite Tupper getting a hand to the spot kick.

Margate were only level for six minutes as Ben Swift superbly controlled a Dan Johnson knock down from a Daniel free kick to superbly crash the ball past Wright to restore Margate’s lead going into the final moments.

Hornchurch weren’t to be beaten at Hartsdown Park though and hit back in the final minutes as George Saunders beat Tupper to bring the game level in the dying moments and extend Margate’s winless run to five games.
