Harvey Smith said he was “buzzing” to be back on the scoresheet after netting in Margate’s 3-1 win over Ramsgate on Tuesday night to secure their place in the 2022/23 DFDS Kent Senior Cup Final on Wednesday 3rd May 2023.
Smith spoke about the importance of getting a win and a goal against fierce rivals Ramsgate and moving on to the final at Priestfield.
“I’m buzzing (with the performance), my first goal back at Margate and it couldn’t have been more special than in the Semi-Final against Ramsgate, and to be able to celebrate with the fans, it was amazing”.
He says that all the boys are “extremely excited” to be into the final and to give the fans a good evening out.
“All the boys are extremely excited, but we’re happier for the fans to be honest because they have stuck with us all through the season and come to every game and just to repay that, it’s surreal.”
“I don’t even know how to put it into words (the victory in the Thanet Derby), all the boys in the changing room have a great mentality to push on in the game on Saturday and everyone is in great spirits”
Harvey admits this season has been a struggle but says that this achievement “should give us a good lift going into pre-season.”
“We didn’t finish where we wanted to this season, we wanted to be higher but it’s not the way things played out and now this win gives us a boost for the final game of the season and going into pre-season so we can become stronger and finish higher next season.”
Harvey and the Blues are back in action at Hartsdown Park for the final game of the season on Saturday as we take on Potters Bar.
Supporters are encouraged stay behind after the match in the Hartsdown Bar to watch the Margate End of Season Awards Night which begin at 6pm.
