Over 60's Walking Football Team Suffer Defeat

Margate Walking Football 60s team opened their Kent League campaign with a narrow defeat to Herne Bay at home on Wednesday evening going down 2-0
The Blues were dealt a blow before a ball was kicked when two players pulled out before the game, leaving the home team with no substitutes. Five minutes into the game a further knock when striker Graham Ryan pulled a hamstring effectively resulting in Margate being down to 5 players.
Despite that the match was an end to end encounter with both keepers having to be at their best pulling of several top class saves.
The first half ended goalless and at the start of the second half the Herne Bay team, containing several ex semi professional players, brought on a couple of subs. With eight minutes to go the Bay team got the break through with a fierce shot finally beating Margate keeper Richard Cowell. A minute later and a wicked deflection off Margate defender Phil Allen wrong footed the keeper to make it two.
The Blues did not give up and tried to score only to be denied by the Herne Bay keeper on several occasions.
