MATCH REPORT / 2019 Concludes With A Point
The first few exchanges were tentative, as both teams settled into the match; Elliott Reeves went on a customary drive down the right channel but was dispossessed before he could shoot, before the Tanners N11 shot wide of the goal when it looked like he would out our visitors 1-0 up!
Both teams were conceding free kicks frequently that meant the game was disjointed and void of anymore clear-cut chances. Ben Swift went close from a Kadell Daniel corner and Leighton and Reeves threatened on the break but could not fashion a clean shooting opportunity. Leatherhead went close with a direct freekick on 42 minuets that Tupper saved and after 2 minutes of added time the first half ended in stalemate.
The second half started much like the first with the teams vying for possession and giving away several needless free-kicks in the middle of the park. The notable change was the amount of possession the ‘Gate enjoyed and how dangerous Leatherhead looked on the counter as they created a number of half chances on the break but Swift, Johnson and Tupper were on hand to make defensive clearances.
Manager Jay Saunders introduced Oyenuga and Ramadan for Richards and Reeves and the two new men combined twice in the closing minutes but were unable to find the Christmas gift of a wining goal and the game finished 0-0.
