Smith: "We want to prove critics wrong"
By Reece Hibbird
Margate striker Harvey Smith says that it was “disappointing” to exit the Emirates FA Cup, however says there is a desire to “prove a lot of people wrong” within the squad.
The striker netted his second Emirates FA Cup goal of the season on Saturday in the 2-1 defeat to National League South side Dulwich Hamlet, but admits himself and his team mates were disappointed to exit the competition.
“There was a real disappointment in the changing room at full time. They went down to ten men in the 30th minute and I think we struggled after that until half-time”.
“The gaffer gave us confidence at half-time with his team talk that they were there for the taking and I think the second half showed we had that belief”.
Despite netting again, Smith says the fact the Blues lost overshadowed the goal.
“It is personally nice to score but this is about a team effort and to go out was disappointing. I think when you look back at that second half we deserved at least a replay”.
Saturday sees Enfield Town visit Hartsdown Park in the Isthmian Premier League and Smith believes the Blues can earn back to back wins in the league for the first time this season.
“I think we have shown what we can do on our day in that performance over Herne Bay. I think a lot of people are saying that we can’t do it but as a squad of players and the gaffer we are determined to prove those people wrong”.
Harvey Smith is sponsored by Mark Sandwell (Home), however his Away shirt is still available for just £65. To sponsor Harvey’s away shirt please call 01843 221769.
