Blues Defeated At Dripping Pan

Margate lost for the first time in four games as they were outdone by Lewes 2-0 at the Dripping Pan on Saturday in the Isthmian Premier Division.

A suspension for Sam Blackman and Harrison Hatfull getting injured in the warm up didn’t help preparations ahead of the game. Manager Andy Drury drafted Montrell Deslandes in last minute as the Blues look to maintain their unbeaten run going against a difficult Lewes side.

The hosts started the much brighter as their player of the month Deon Moore cut in from the left and had the game’s first chance in just the second minute. The Blues were up against an early wave of attacks and should have been behind in the 16th minute as Moore again failed to turn home a fine cross as the scores remained 0-0.

The ‘Gate couldn’t hold out much longer as they fell behind in the 29th minute from a thing of beauty as Razz Coleman De Graft superbly cut in on his left foot and curled the ball superbly around Daniel Jinadu and into the far corner from 25 yards to give the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead.

There was no doubt that Lewes were the better side and they almost doubled their lead on 37 minutes as Moore was firstly denied by Jinadu before the follow up effort was superbly cleared off the line by Freddy Barton as Margate escaped going in at half-time further behind.

The Blues started the second 45 much brighter as firstly Ade Cole sent a shot goalwards, before Ben Greenhalgh saw his free-kick narrowly go over as the Blues looked to get level.

Despite looking better in possession, Margate ran the risk of getting caught out by the home sides pace and they had Jinadu to thank for not going further behind as Coleman De Graft again showcased some fine skill before seeing his effort well saved by the Blues ‘keeper.

With the clock ticking down, Margate continued to push bodies forward as they forced the Lewes ‘keeper in to two saves from Greenhalgh and Korry Henry, however it looked as though it wasn’t to be the ‘Gate’s day as time ticked away.

A long range effort from Cameron Brodie looked to be the last action until in the dying seconds Lewes moved the ball forward and found Joe Taylor who continued his fine scoring record against the Blues as he converted a cross to make it 2-0 in the 95th minute.
