Gate Draw With Potters Bar
By Tom Morris
Margate took on Potters Bar Town in the last home Isthmian Premier League game of the month and will be disappointed to take a point away in a 2-2 draw as Josh Hutchinson scored a last minute equaliser after the ‘Gate had plenty of chances to secure all 3 points.
The game started quite slowly with both teams vying for possession, Elliott Reeves attempted an audacious lob after 5 minutes that went over the bar but he didn’t have to wait long for his goal as on 20 minutes he got on the end of a good cross from Noel Leighton and applied the finish. 1-0 Margate.
The score line doubled as Reeves got his double chipping the keeper from 20 yards in the 25th minute, it was a very accomplished finish from a striker finding form in the Isthmian Premier League.
There were multiple chances to extend the lead from corners and free kicks that just missed their intended targets and the game was looking beyond Potters Bar but they pulled a goal back in the 35th minute with Roman Michael-Percil slotting home after Tupper had saved Kartita’s effort. That’s how the score remained at half time with the hosts going back to the dressing rooms two goals to one up.
The second half continued to be dominated by the ‘Gate, Monlouis fired an effort wide in the 47th minute after a neat give-and-go and Reeves hit the bar with a header from 7 yards before Daniel went close with a free kick from the left hand side in the 58th minute.
As the half progressed there was another attempted chip from Reeves, a shot that hit the post from substitute Oyenuga and a Daniel free kick that also hit the bar before our visitors won a penalty in the 94th minute. Josh Hutchinson stepped up and coolly dispatched the spot kick to send the away fans into raptures and secure a point for his team.
Full time, Margate 2-2 Potters Bar Town.
