Midfielder Godrey Poku says Margate “must win” when they travel to Hythe on Tuesday in the Kent Senior Cup First Round.
After an impressive victory against Folkestone, the Gate were unable to continue their run of form losing 4-1 to Canvey Island.
Debutant Poku said: “After the game Its mixed emotions.
“It’s hard to come from three-nil down and we didn’t start the game too well. We have got to just skip that game and look forward to Tuesday.”
“We have to be patient even if we are losing and we need to do the basics, once we do that the other things will come. I feel like we went all guns blazing after going two or three down and it is hard to comeback.
“When it got to 3-1. I thought we started to play again and do things right but the fourth one just killed us.
“It wasn’t a good day but we have got to just focus on the positives from that and look forward to Tuesday.”
While it wasn’t a day to remember for most Gate fans, it was a memorable one for midfielder Poku who made his debut for the club.
The 33-year-old moved to Margate from Enfield last Thursday.
“Since I've come in, the lads have been top, I’ve played against a few of them so I know what they are about.
“I’ve got no doubt that we will do well this season because there is nothing better than a good dressing room.”
The ‘Gate now look to their next game as they face Hythe Town in the Kent Senior Cup.
Silverware is always the main objective of a cup competition but it also gives the team a chance to bounce-back and regain momentum in the league.
