Gate Knocked Out Of Trophy
Two first half goals were enough to knock The Gate out of the Buildbase FA Trophy as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Potters Bar on Saturday afternoon.
Despite a bright start for the hosts, the Scholars took the lead after 10 minutes. Bradley Sach in the right place at the right time to punish Margate from a corner.
The visitors doubled their lead ruthlessly later in the half, capitalising on a parried shot with Sach the man again to take advantage.
Margate responded enjoying longer periods of possession on the ball which they made count when young right-back Jack Paxman produced a brilliant cross, headed towards goal by Frannie Collin.
Collin’s header fell into the path of team-mate Joe Taylor, a man in form, who grabbed the opportunity to halve the deficit.
The second half was a rather uneventful affair as Margate sought an equaliser.
The Gate had strong claims for a penalty waved away as Stephen Okoh looked to have been chopped down in the area.
During a second half that failed to build any real tempo, neither team truly tested their opposing keeper and a goal less 45 minutes saw Potters Bar progress, seeing out the tie with a hard-working display.
