Oyenuga Delighted With Home Debut Goal

As first impressions go, Kudus Oyenuga has made quite the impact upon Margate fans since his signing in the summer.

After last Saturday’s hat-trick heroics, The Gate’s danger-man scored the opener against Lewes on his first competitive start for the club at Hartsdown Park.

Speaking after the 2-0 victory, Oyenuga expressed his delight at helping contribute to Margate’s first win of the campaign.

“We are all really happy to get the win. I don’t think we played as best as we know we can but we got the result and that’s the main thing.”

“The boys all tried hard and we needed to because we’ve been unlucky in recent games, we’ve drawn a couple and lost the one but we’ve looked dangerous and been pegged back.”

Oyenuga added, “Today was good to get the three points and the clean sheet, I’m buzzing for Milo and our defence and overall it’s a really good day.”

A persistent threat up top for Margate, Oyenuga has found some form nice and early in the season and hopes to do more so as The Gate get the ball rolling for 2019/20.

“I know when I get chances, I know I’ll score goals so for me I focus on getting in the right areas. The Gaffer keeps telling me to get in the box so I’ll score more.”

As Oyenuga explains, the effort across the starting eleven will reap its rewards as the season unfolds, alongside some friendly rivalry to finish top of the goalscoring leader board!

“Kads is a brilliant player, I’ve known of Kads from before so to play with him is great. I say to him, I know he’ll get me loads of goals this season! It’s about the team because they’re the ones providing me with the chances to score. It’s a team game and I just try to finish it off.”

“Harrison delivered a great ball to me, Kads done a good ball to me the other day, I’ve won a penalty and Noel’s set me up before. So, the chances are coming from across the whole team for me, so hopefully I can just keep it going.”

Reflecting further on Saturday’s contest against Lewes, Oyenuga added,

“Lewes had a lot of the ball but they didn’t really break us down or have too clear an opportunity. They hit the crossbar once but apart from that, we were fine.”

“It’s been a good start, we could have had a few more points on the board but those points will prove valuable later in the season. We have a good group here, we have just got to keep improving and getting better.”

And whilst Oyenuga had to wait a little longer for his home debut, it was a wait that proved worthwhile and made sweeter by a goal.

“I was saying the other day, ‘When are we going to get a home game?’, as I felt I was playing away all the time!”

“It was good to play at home, it is my first competitive game here as I missed the first one as my sister got married. There was a brilliant crowd today and the supporters done really well. We will need them throughout the season. The main thing is to stick together as a team and club and we will be good.”
