Swift: "Ready For Gillingham Test"

Margate Captain Ben Swift says he “loves” getting clean sheets, but “would always choose three points” over not conceding.

Margate kept their fifth clean sheet in the league throughout February during Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Bishop’s Stortford, but Swift says they still need to get the balance right.

“We need to find the right balance still in some games. We keep clean sheets then sometimes don’t score, yet at other times we score goals but then concede a couple”

“We have to get that right balance if we want to push for the play-offs.

Attention turns now to Tuesday evening as the ‘Gate welcome League One Side Gillingham to Hartsdown Park for a Kent Senior Cup fixture, and the skipper is looking forward to the challenge.

“They are a side that play in League One so it will be nice to test ourselves against a higher division opposition. We don’t know what type of team they will bring as they are fighting for survival, but I imagine it will be a mixture”.

No matter what Gillingham side arrives at Hartsdown Park tomorrow evening, Swift thinks it will be a tough test.

“They will be a good side, but we want to win. The gaffer said at the start of the season we want to be fighting on all fronts, and heading into the final two months of the season we are doing that”.

“Ideally, come the end of the season we would have won two trophies and made a late charge for a play-off place”.

Margate welcome SkyBet League One side Gillingham to Hartsdown Park on Tuesday evening and tickets are half-price.

Tickets can be purchased in advance here.

The winners of Tuesday evenings game will host the winners of Dartford v Dover Athletic in the Quarter-Final.

Ben Swift is sponsored this season by Graham Ives (Home) and Mike and Warwick Perry (Away).
