Martin Penalty Earns Point
Margate and Leatherhead battled for a point a piece at Hartsdown Park on a blustery Saturday afternoon.
After an opening 15 minutes as damp as the weather, the first half sprung to life when the visitors took the lead.
Dangerman Shuan Okojie slammed the ball home on the half-volley from a corner Margate were unable to clear, putting Leatherhead one ahead.
The hosts looked to fight back as the half wore on with Bradley Stevenson and Tom Mills enjoying some speculative shots from distance.
Leatherhead could have doubled their lead before the break when Louis Wells was called into action to make a fine save before Okolie hit the bar with the follow-up effort.
After the break Stevenson nearly came close to equalising for The Gate. His combination play with substitute Sid Sollis nearly unlocking the Leatherhead defence as Stevenson’s effort curled inches wide of the right-hand post.
A fiery contest ensued, and Margate were presented with the opportunity to draw level when centre back Ben Swift was pulled back in the box.
Stepping up to convert, Dave Martin with cool and collected ease.
With the momentum swinging the way of the hosts, Margate pushed forward but couldn’t get another and the game concluded with the teams sharing the spoils.
