Blackman: "We Owe The Fans A Performance"

Interview by Reece Hibbird

Margate midfielder Sam Blackman says the ‘Gate are “as prepared as we can be” for the Kent Senior Cup Final vs Chatham Town on Wednesday evening at Priestfield, home of Gillingham FC.

Blackman said Margate are intrigued at the prospect of playing in the Kent Senior Cup Final and says it will be a “welcomed challenge” facing Chatham Town. “We are as prepared as we can be, obviously they are a different prospect to what we have faced all season so I think it will be a welcomed challenge, and we are all up for it.”

This will be Blackman’s second cup final in back-to-back years for the Blues and he was asked if he could share any knowledge on what it’s like to the boys who haven’t played in one.

“I mean its obviously a great experience, when you get to a cup final you get more fans going and you feel all the adrenaline especially with the added pressure of it being a one-off game.”

Sam said it was a “special run” to the final, especially having to get past Ramsgate in the Semi-Finals. “It was an amazing feeling (to beat Ramsgate), especially for all the local fans to celebrate together and win against our fierce rivals, the atmosphere was amazing, and what topped off the night was knowing that we had a cup final to now look forward to.”

“A big thank you to the fans, it’s been one of them years where it hasn’t gone to plan but you had ability to stick with us, even when it was at the lowest points, just look at the attendance for the semi-final, 1481, and it just shows how much you have been behind us through a difficult season, we owe you guys a cup final after what happened last year but I just want to say thank you to everyone, we will go and give it our all for you on Wednesday.”

Blackman and Margate are in action for the final time of the 2022/23 season in the Kent Senior Cup Final at Priestfield where we will be taking on Chatham Town. Come and support the ‘Gate in the Cup Final by getting your tickets by clicking here.
