Saunders Assesses Enfield Loss

By Ryan Day

Margate Manager Jay Saunders said some of his players “switched off” as they fell to a 3-0 home defeat to Enfield Town on Tuesday night.

The Blues conceded three second half goals and Saunders was not impressed by some of his players with second half performances.

“I told them in the changing room and they know who they are but some of the players switched off in the second half. I thought in the first half we created some good chances and the same in the second half”.

“It is very frustrating especially after three good results against Bishops Stortford, Wingate & Finchley and Haringey Borough.”

Saunders was keen to stress that the blame doesn’t lie just at the feet of his defenders but at the whole team and is looking for a reaction on Saturday.

“It is not just the defenders it is us as a team that need to better. The second goal from them come from out wide so it’s not me just digging out the defence but the whole team have to step up and take responsibility”.

“Letting in goals in quick succession has happened more than once now, so it has become a mental thing and we need to address that."

Ahead of the trip to Merstham this weekend, Saunders has warned his squad that he will make changes if they do not improve.

“I think I have been fair and given lots of players lots of chances so I will have to take a look at that. We might have to make some changes and we will be working on that but in the meantime we have to go to Merstham on Saturday and try and get things right”.
