MATCH REPORT / Gate Fall To Haringey Defeat
Margate fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Haringey Borough at Hartsdown Park on Saturday afternoon thanks to a second half strike from Georgios Aresti.
In a game that was largely played out in the middle of the park it was the hosts who started brightly with Joe Taylor and Frannie Collin linking up well before Collin blasted an effort well wide.
The hosts momentum was halted on 16 minutes as Stephen Okoh had to be replaced for Sid Sollis due to injury as Haringey began to grow into the game with Joel Nouble causing some difficult moments for the home side.
Margate talisman Taylor continued to create chances for the Blues as he wriggled free in the box but his low drive was well handled by former ‘Gate keeper Valery Pajetat.
The second half started very much in the same fashion with the ball mainly in the middle until the 59th minute as the visitors took the lead through a fine goal from Aresti from 20 yards.
Margate began to take control of the game more but were dealt a blow as the visitors were awarded a penalty which was well saved by Henry Newcombe down to his left.
There was no way back for Margate thanks to Pajetat and they were dealt a further blow in the closing moments as Sollis was red carded for a tussle in the middle of the park.
