Margate U23’s bounced back in some style from their previous defeat, after a long unbeaten run, with an empathic 6-0 home win against Lydd U23’s.
Highlight of the game was an impressive hat trick from energetic midfielder Reece Grieg who was in fine form. It was his early strike that settled The ‘Gate along with Fabian De Oliviera on 36 mins that took a deserved two goal advantage into the break.
Nathan Geddes made sure the momentum did not decrease as he struck on 47 min.
Grieg completed his hat trick on 58 & 75 mins before Finlay Saunders completed a fantastic night in the 82nd min.
There was yet another fine debut from U16 in Alfie Williams Galt. Although not originally in the squad but asked to attend for experience suddenly found himself named on the bench after Lou Mirza sustained a last minute knee injury during the warm up.
Galt, another fine prospect from the impressive youth section stepping up and displaying all the qualities and expectations required ,coming on for Woody Pitman in the 81st min capping a great evening for him and the squad.
Margate now look forward to their biggest game of the season so far for this young squad, with an Intermediate Cup semi final trip away to Erith on Thursday evening.
