Margate U23’s continued their pre-season campaign on Friday night, falling to a 3-1 defeat against Hythe Town at Hartsdown Park.
The visitors took the lead in the 26th minute with a well-struck effort from outside the area that found its way past the Margate goalkeeper.
The Blues responded well and found an equaliser just seven minutes later. A well-delivered corner was met with a powerful header to restore parity in the 33rd minute.
The second half saw a noticeable increase in tempo as both sides looked to sharpen up ahead of the new season. Margate created several promising opportunities but were unable to convert their chances.
Hythe regained the lead in the 73rd minute and sealed the win in the closing seconds with a breakaway goal, leaving the young Blues to reflect on a spirited performance despite the result.
