Margate Women continue their pre-season preparations this Sunday with a short trip to face Herne Bay Ladies, kicking off at 3:30pm.
The last time these two sides met was in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round, where Margate suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat after a 2-2 draw in normal time. That match was notably George Adams’ first game as assistant coach — he now leads the team as manager.
Herne Bay enter the new season with fresh leadership, as current Whitstable Town Men’s first team coach Taylor Couldry takes charge of the side.
Margate will feature youth graduates Beth Miller and Eloise Parnham in the matchday squad, with winger Abbie Luby unavailable. Striker Michaela Beach will be eager to add to her pre-season goal tally, while several members of the youthful travelling squad will be looking to open their accounts. A number of first-team regulars will miss the match, offering a valuable opportunity for emerging talent to step up.
Manager George Adams has also bolstered his coaching setup with the addition of Salim Usman, former Margate U23s manager and Canterbury assistant, who will bring extra tactical insight and deliver high-quality training sessions ahead of the game.
This test against higher-tier opposition comes at an ideal time, serving as strong preparation for Margate’s upcoming FA Cup clash away to Cray Wanderers at Flamingo Park.
