After the late cancellation of our scheduled fixture against Larkfield and New Hythe at Hartsdown Park, we are pleased to confirm that Sittingbourne have stepped in to provide our third pre-season test. The Gate will make the short trip to the Staxson Stadium to take on the Kent Division 2 East side this weekend.
Margate supporters will be excited to see the first appearance of the season from forward Elena Brock, who made a huge impact last year and will be eager to open her account for the new campaign.
Manager George Adams continues to focus on building rhythm and sharpness ahead of the upcoming Southern East Counties Women’s Football League season. With several first-team regulars unavailable, the fixture provides a valuable opportunity for younger and squad players to stake their claim for a place in the side.
Speaking ahead of the game, Adams said:
“Sittingbourne will be a good opportunity for us to put some of the tactical tweaks we’ve worked on in training into practice and see how well the players can implement them.
We’ve been focusing on our defensive solidity and pressing triggers this week, so I’m hoping the girls can show their progress in those areas after last weekend.
With the opposition being a couple of leagues below us, it also gives the rest of the squad a chance to show what they are capable of and hopefully give us a selection headache heading into the new season.”
