The 2025/26 South East Counties Women’s Football League season kicks off this afternoon at Hartsdown Park, as Margate Women host Maidstone United Women in what promises to be a competitive clash between two familiar rivals.
These sides met twice last season in closely contested fixtures, with both teams picking up a win apiece. Maidstone edged out Margate 3-2 in a thrilling October encounter at Hartsdown Park, with then-striker Paige Godden scoring twice to seal the points for the visitors.
However, Margate responded later in the season with a determined performance at the Gallagher Stadium, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory thanks to a late goal from Rebecca Elsley.
Maidstone arrive in confident mood, having progressed in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup last weekend with an emphatic 5-1 win away at Oxted and District. Goals from Kylie Manktelow, Ellie Hinkley, and Annie White underlined their attacking threat – a challenge Margate’s defence will be prepared to meet head-on.

Margate are boosted by the return of Anna Butova, who rejoins the squad after missing recent training due to international travel. Having represented in a major Panna tournament abroad, Anna will be eager to make her mark on the pitch and help her side get off to a winning start this season.
