Margate travel to AFC Croydon Athletic on Saturday afternoon looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Eastbourne Town.
The ‘Gate fell further behind in the race for the play-offs which left them almost no margin for error with just 14 games remaining. Ben Greenhalgh’s side sit nine points outside the top five, of which some have two games in hand on the ‘Gate.
Greenhalgh will be hoping to be able to call upon Sam Blackman who failed a fitness test last weekend, whilst Brandon Davey also nears a return to the squad.
Saturday’s opposition are enjoying a spectacular season as they continue to chase down table toppers Three Bridges. Sitting second in the division, Croydon are just five points behind Three Bridges with both sides having 15 games remaining.
Expect goals on Saturday afternoon when two of the league’s top goalscoring teams meet. Between the two sides they have scored 125 league goals this season, the home side with 64 and Margate 61.
Croydon have lost just once in their previous seven league games, a 3-2 defeat against Ashford United. Worryingly for the ‘Gate, they have scored four goals in consecutive weekends. Saturday’s hosts haven’t scored less that two goals in a league game since their 2-0 defeat to Three Bridges on 15th November 2025.
This will be the fourth encounter between these two sides and Margate are still awaiting their first victory. Earlier this season, an incredibly bad refereeing display was the catalyst for Croydon taking all three points from Hartsdown Park with a 1-0 win.
Last season the two sides played out a 2-2 draw at Hartsdown Park, whilst our last trip to the Mayfield Stadium ended in a 1-0 defeat.
Margate fans will be familiar with former Blues Kadell Daniel and Amadou Tangara who now feature for today’s hosts.
