Margate hit the road again on Saturday as they travel to Sussex for the second consecutive week, this time to face Hastings United at The Pilot Field.
Away form has been the shining light for the Blues this season in an otherwise frustrating campaign. Last weekend’s 3-2 away win at Broadbridge Heath means the Blues have lost just once on the road in their last eleven games.
That defeat was against Three Bridges when the Blues played the second half with nine men, and Ben Greenhalgh in goal, eventually losing 3-0.
Saturday’s opposition have boosted their survival hopes in the division with back to back wins over the two basement sides in the league standings. Those wins gave them a 10 point gap over the relegation zone which would have eased their relegation concerns massively.
Prior to those wins though the U’s had been on a tricky run of form where they had collected just two points from a possible 21 available.
‘Gate fans travelling to the game will recognise some former Blues players lining up for the hosts with Max Walsh and Lukas Franzen-Jones now plying their trade in Sussex.
Recent history between these two sides hasn’t been kind to the ‘Gate. In the last ten meetings, Margate have just one win, an FA Cup replay win in 2016. Margate have lost the last three meetings by an aggregate score of 9-1, including a 4-0 defeat in 2024 as the ‘Gate tumbled out of the Isthmian Premier Division.
Ben Greenhalgh will be forced to make one change with Emmauel Oke suspended after his red card late on last week at Broadbridge Heath.
Kick-off at The Pilot Field is scheduled for 3pm.
