Margate Football Club are delighted to confirm that Ben Greenhalgh will remain as Player/Manager for the upcoming 2026/27 season.
Greenhalgh initially signed for the Blues ahead of the 2021/22 campaign and was officially appointed Player/Manager on 29 May 2024, leading into the 2024/25 season.
In his first season in charge, he guided the ‘Gate to a 4th-place finish in the Isthmian South-East Division, narrowly missing out on promotion after a play-off semi-final defeat away to Burgess Hill Town, who went on to secure promotion to the Isthmian Premier Division.
This season, Margate continue to push towards the final stages of the campaign in pursuit of a top-five finish, despite that now being outside of their control, falling out of the playoffs during a mid season dip however putting in some brilliant performances and momentum of late
Chairman Ricky Owen commented:
“If we miss out on the playoffs this year, that’s very disappointing and falls short of our original goal – there’s no hiding that. However, ripping everything up and starting again was not the path we wanted to take.
Ben will continue to have our full backing, as he always has, and we are confident he can deliver. It’s clear how deeply he cares about this club. Last week, he made his 250th appearance for Margate – something almost unheard of in today’s modern game.”
Greenhalgh added:
“It is a great honour to remain as Manager for the 2026/27 season at Margate Football Club. I have repeatedly spoken about what this club means to me. No one was hurting more than me this season when results weren’t what they should be.
I want to thank the club for their support over the past two years and for giving me the opportunity to take the team forward next season.
Being manager this season has taught me so much, we made some big calls which inevitably didn’t pay off but we managed to turn things around when we felt rock bottom. Heading into my third season, I couldn’t be more determined to deliver on our club’s ambitions. We will work continuously over the next few months to ensure we are as well equipped as we can possibly be. I look forward to continuing at Hartsdown Park and continue to earn the backing of our magnificent supporters.”
