Margate Football Club has always been more than just a football club. Through the outstanding work of the Margate Football Club Community Trust, the club continues to play a vital role at the heart of the local community, delivering projects and initiatives that support residents of all ages and backgrounds.
The Community Trust has become a hub for positive change, bringing people together, tackling social isolation, supporting vulnerable individuals, and creating opportunities for young people throughout Thanet.
Supporting Those Most in Need
One of the Trust’s most impactful programmes is its weekly Homeless Support Project, held at Hartsdown Park every Friday, which provides a welcoming and supportive environment for individuals experiencing homelessness or hardship.
The project is delivered in partnership with a number of organisations and agencies, all working collaboratively to provide practical assistance, advice, and pathways to longer-term support. By bringing services together under one roof, attendees can access guidance on housing, health, wellbeing, benefits, employment, and other essential support services.
The initiative has become a lifeline for many, demonstrating the power of partnership working and reinforcing the club’s commitment to supporting some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
Bringing People Together Through the Over 55s Social Drop-In
Social isolation remains one of the biggest challenges facing older people, and the Community Trust’s popular Over 55s Social Drop-In continues to provide a welcoming space where friendships can flourish, running Thursdays 10am-12pm.
Held weekly at the club, the sessions offer an opportunity for local residents aged 55 and over to meet new people, enjoy refreshments, take part in activities, and simply spend time together in a friendly and inclusive environment.
For many attendees, the sessions have become an important part of their weekly routine and a valuable source of social connection.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Looking ahead to the new season, the Community Trust is excited to launch its new Golden Ticket Initiative, which will be available to schools across the local area.
The programme aims to strengthen links between Margate Football Club and local schools by providing opportunities for pupils to engage with the club, attend matches, and experience the excitement of football in a safe and family-friendly environment.
The initiative is designed to inspire young people, encourage community participation, and introduce a new generation of supporters to the club. By opening the doors to local schools, the Trust hopes to create memorable experiences for children while strengthening the club’s connection with the wider community.
