Margate Football Club is delighted to announce that Midfielder Sam Blackman has committed to club for a further year.

Blackman has signed a one-year contract that will keep him at Hartsdown Park until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The 26-year-old is in his second stint at the club after joining originally during the 2017/18 season. Blackman then left the Blues and headed for Concord Rangers where he featured at Wembley in their FA Trophy defeat in May 2021.

The midfielder re-joined the Blues in the summer of 2021, and has now committed to a further year at the club.

Margate Chairman Ricky Owen was delighted to tie the midfielder down for a further year, and admitted seeing a “settled” squad at Hartsdown Park has been his long-term ambition.

“It is fantastic to see Sam commit to a further year with us. It shows our intent moving forward, and hopefully others will follow”.

“It has been my ambition to stop the ‘revolving door’, we can’t keep rebuilding a whole squad year on year. I spoke last summer about wanting to see a more settled side moving forward, and this is the start of that process”.

Manager Jay Saunders was as equally pleased to see Blackman commit to the club for the 2022/23 season.

“We all know the quality that Sam has and how important he is to us. I have had some really positive conversations with Ricky and I believe this announcement shows our intentions moving forward”.

Blackman has scored four times so far this season in the league and returned to the side on Tuesday night in the Kent Senior Cup against Gillingham as the Blues progressed to the Quarter-Finals after a penalty shoot-out win.

Sam Blackman is sponsored this season by David and Lesley Swinnock (Home & Away).
