INTERVIEW / Rutherford: "Progressing was most important thing"
Rutherford: "Progressing was most important thing"
Margate Striker Fyn Rutherford says that the feeling he had after scoring his first competitive goal for Margate is “unbeatable”.
The 17-year-old who has shown continued signs of improvement this season, scored his first goal for the Blues in the 51st minute of the ‘Gate’s Kent Senior Cup win over Gillingham.
“That feeling of scoring your first goal is unbeatable. The main thing was that we progressed in the competition”.
Manager Jay Saunders has often spoken about the promise of Rutherford, and the young striker admits it is nice to have the support of his Manager.
“Jay has always supported me and believed in me, and after the game he was buzzing for me”
Rutherford admits that the opportunity to learn from players such as Ben Greenhalgh and Vance Bola, are only going to help him develop.
“It is great to be involved with those experienced players. I learn a lot from them and they will help me to continue to develop my game further”.
Rutherford returned to school this morning after his heroics last night, but admitted scoring his first goal made him even hungrier to get more minutes for the Blues.
“I have always been hungry to get minutes and play football and that is even more the case now after scoring”.
“I will stay humble and carry on working hard. It is obviously nice to have everyone buzzing for me but I will stay humble”.
The teenager saved the last words for the Margate supporters who he says helped the squad progress in a tough fixture.
“The atmosphere last night was fantastic. Obviously being so young I am not really used to it, but they were brilliant and really helped us get through”.
Fyn Rutherford is still available to sponsor for the 2021/22 season both Home and Away.
