Cheshunt (A) - 12th March 2024

By Josh Cole

A crucial game under the lights on Tuesday night as we travel to Hertfordshire to take on Cheshunt for matchday #34!

Last time out we were beaten away in Essex by Hashtag United 4-2. Read the match report from that game by clicking here.

OPPONENTS SEASON SO FAR:

Coming down from the league above, Cheshunt had a mediocre start to the season with one draw, two losses and a win against us at Hartsdown Park 1-2. Inconsistent form has been a massive part of The Ambers season as two losses followed their win at HDP, before they beat Bognor at home 3-1. A loss to Cray Wanderers and a win against Dulwich in their next two games cemented Cheshunt in the lower half of midtable. A winless run of five games came next (three losses and two draws) including a 0-6 drubbing at home to Hornchurch, putting Cheshunt on the backfoot. A crucial 5-4 win against fellow strugglers Kingstonian gave them some hope, and they continued to push on with a 1-1 draw against Hashtag and a 1-4 away win vs Carshalton Athletic. Since that win, they lost five games in a row in the league. They broke that losing streak with a home win against Whitehawk but went straight back to losing three games in a row, before drawing away to Bognor Regis. Two more losses followed that draw, before another point gained away at Kingstonian. They finally got their first win since the 27th of January as they beat fellow relegation candidates Concord Rangers, 0-3 away. Their last result was a loss away at Haringey Borough, who have now miraculously gained on both the ‘Gate and Cheshunt as the fight for survival reaches breaking point.

HEAD-TO-HEAD:

The Ambers have the slight upper hand in the head-to-head record after five matches between the two teams. Cheshunt have won two, which includes their away win earlier in the season, we have won once back in 2019 and two draws finish the encounters. Having lost to Cheshunt earlier on, Margate will be looking to split the series this season and will be out to avenge that loss at Hartsdown Park with a win at Theobalds Lane and improve our chances of survival.

MATCH OFFICIALS:

The referee for this important tie is Craig Barnett and he will be assisted by Matthew Pointer and Richard Airey.
